Fishing Calender

This is an approximation. Dates, times, moon, tides, weather, water temperature to name a few, all effect when the fish show up, and where the fish are.  Some years are better than others.

APRIL: Schoolie Striped bass can be caught around the islands, rips, and outflows on soft plastics and small lipped swimmers.  Winter flounder can be caught in the harbor anchored up with sand worms.

MAY: Keeper sized stripers can be caught around the islands, rips and outflows using the same soft plastics and lipped swimmers.  Winter flounder fishing is in its prime but 1-3 fish is a good day.  You can start catching porgies but later in the summer is best.  Fluke fishing is hot.

JUNE: Large striped bass and bluefish can be caught on bunker schools just outside the islands.  It is common to catch fish up to 30-40 lbs live lining or chunking bunker.  It is very possible to connect with larger fish while casting lures around the islands as well, especially during low light or night time. Porgy and sea bass fishing is heating up. Fluke fishing remains good.

JULY: The first and sometimes second week of July can be productive for catching large striped bass on bunker schools.  Most of the fishing for stripers in July will be done at night with chunks in and around the Islands, and deeper drop offs and rips.  Bluefish can still be caught on or near bunker schools. Porgy and sea bass fishing is hot in relatively shallow water. Fluke can begin moving to deeper water.

AUGUST:  Striped bass can still be caught at night on chunks and casting around islands at times.  Bluefish can be found mid sound, as well as around bunker schools. Porgy and sea bass fishing is hot. Fluke can be hard to find.

SEPTEMBER: Striped bass and bluefish become more active.  Can be caught on lures casting around islands. Porgy and sea bass should remain hot.  Usually by mid September Albies can be caught.  Some years are better than others.  Some years they may not show at all.

OCTOBER: Striped bass and bluefish can be seen blitzing small bait on surface.  Albie fishing is in its prime (if they are here). Porgy and sea bass fishing should remain good. Later in the month, they may start moving toward deeper water.  Shallow water black fishing is good.

NOVEMBER: Striped bass and bluefish can be seen blitzing small bait on surface.  Albie fishing can still remain the first week of November only. Black fish can still be caught shallow, but will be moving to deep water.

DECEMBER: Schoolie striped bass (and sometimes larger) can be caught near and inside of tidal rivers
